Guild wars is a team game. Unless of course you want to go play hero battles. We do have forums for hero battle discussions and hero battle builds. If 1v1 scrimmage in the guild hall type of stuff is what you're looking for, then you check if you have your own guild's forums to discuss that. Because Gladiator's Arena is not the place.

Well, 1v1 isnt really a serious arena, i love thinking of builds to destroy my guildies with in scrimmages. i have 2 good ones currently although i will only be sharing one since i am entering that joust tournament and dont want to give away my build.
this is only Vs meleeers

Sever artery
wild blow(glad's defense)

mystic vigor
Healing sig
Avvy of Dawanya
put on enchants, then dawany, then spam ripostes, and use sever arvery to apply a deep wound.
gets pwned by spell casters. my record for a kill is 10 seconds after we started fighting.

we do melee only 1v1s, and iv never lost. i thought it was pretty clever to be able to drop hexes like nothing and heal like to tomorrow.

I once watched a scrim some people in my guild had, 1 was an IW warrior, I'm guessing that Siphon Strength could also work wonders in a 1 on 1 melee (weaken their damage and increase your critical chance)

Cripshot rangers! ^_^ They're a pain for almost anyone to deal with who don't have really good self-healing, and then, it's pretty much a standoff.
Which is what 1v1s tend to degenerate into unless you've got something that can counter the opponent's setup.

Broad Head Arrow would win simply because it would daze mending touch. Or not. Dunno.
But yeah, R/Mo would win most, if not all. Just savage Healing Breeze/Restful Breeze, Dshot heal sig, and burning arrow through FN. Not like a Shields Up war could win you either.

A 1v1 battle is pretty much meaningless in this game, as guild wars is meant to be played as a team. Also, since you can only run 8 skills, and the opponent could range from a ranger to warrior to monk, there's no way to fully prepare for them all.
Against melee, some good skills are riposte, deadly riposte.
Against casters, an anti-caster mesmer with backfire and guilt can work.
Against ranged fighters, blinding skills and projectile dodging helps.
It really depends on the match-up, and if you know the type of fighter the other player is using, the match is really pointless as you can easily build to counter them. If you don't, it's pointless because it's a random guessing game since you can't prepare for everything.
And Coloneh, that build will get owned by a simple touch ranger. GG

Use Gash to apply deep wound. BTW, I can think of three builds (of three different professions) which would beat you with ease, all of them general anti-melee builds.

Im running a W/N with VIM, sever+gash+enfeeblin touch. Add to this faintheartedness and u have a pretty good degen. I also use plague touch to boost VIM and have an anti condition (blind etc ...), bonety defense to avoid Dervich that really hurts sometimes and healing signet, that i can spam because te ennemy suffers of weakness (he deals about 2-3 dmg pet hit ....) but usually VIM is large enough.
This build as pretty good damage input (use an elemental damage mod), good degen (-6 + deep wound), and very good defensive points (instant health+mana heal with VIM, -50% attack speed from the enemy, and insignificant damage). Never loss with this one yet, even against rispotes build (wich i hate, too easy to play, mindless players use it).
Sry for my bad english (I'm french).

Melee 1v1 tournaments are pretty much pointless. If two Riposte stance tanks whiffing at each other is your idea of a good time, though, be my guest.
The only time 1v1 is actually decent is in GvG skirmish, because in those situations you have to build for more than just a 1v1 fight. If you go into battle knowing you only have to fight one melee foe and you have no other objectives, all you do is bring a ton of anti-melee and a couple damage skills. On a GvG skirmish char, you have to be flexible in order to benefit your team. A Riposte tank would be a waste of space in GvG.
